I was gifted some items from adidas for the purposes of this post. All words are my own.
I’m sure that so many of you will have started, or even finished your Christmas shopping by now. But if, like me, you’re not the organised type or are lacking inspiration, I’ve put together some gift ideas for the outdoor adventurer in your life. Or maybe you want to treat yourself with a nice reward after a year of smashing your goals!
If you’ve got to buy Christmas gifts for your friends and family who love the outdoors or enjoy being active, here are a few things that are sure to be a hit on the big day.
Big Presents
I don’t know about you, but I find the young people in my life hardest to buy for, especially now they are all getting older and have stronger opinions about what they like and don’t like! The boys usually get some clothes for Christmas and top of the list this year is a pair of tracksuits for them, which is sure to score some mum points for being fashionable, and keeps me happy as I know they’ll be warm and comfy on our family adventures. A cosy tracksuit or hoodie is also a good idea for dogwalkers and parents who spend a lot of time watching from the touchlines.

If you know someone who is into their running or fitness, or just starting out on a more active lifestyle, running shoes or trainers are the biggest investment they will have to make. Getting a well fitting pair of trainers is essential and the most important bit of kit you need. A new pair or even just a contribution towards one, will be very welcome (I speak from experience here!)
New running shoes are a big investment, so make a great gift
There’s also lots of running accessories that make great stocking fillers. Socks, gloves, hats and water bottles come in handy and are always appreciated.

If you’re looking for gifts for those who like a more sedate pace of life, fear not, I have ideas for them too! If you have friends and family who like hiking or camping, here’s a few ideas that are sure to hit the right note.
Firstly, a good torch is right at the top of the list when it comes to the most useful outdoor kit. We obviously use one all the time when we’re camping, but in the winter we always carry one in our rucksack in case of emergencies or if we end up staying out longer than expected. Here’s a guide I wrote a few years ago about our favourite camping lights, if you need some inspiration.
Again, as with running, footwear is an important and worthwhile investment. Walking boots are always a winner, but there’s related items too that make a great stocking filler, for example a boot bag, waterproofer or good quality walking socks.
Finally, one thing that I have given to many people over the years, is an Ordnance Survey map. These are invaluable for any outdoor adventurer, but you can also order custom maps where you chose the centre point and can add your own photo for the front cover.
A personalised map is a great gift for any outdoor adventurer
Hopefully this has given you some inspiration for gifts for the outdoor adventurer in your life. If you have any suggestions please let me know and I’ll add them to the list!
