I don’t know about you, but I think that January is the worst time to be making lifestyle changes. New Years resolutions, Dry January, Veganuary…it’s all a big nope from me!
As far as I’m concerned, January is all about survival-just do whatever it takes to get through it. I always feel like I need a few weeks to recover from the stress and busyness of December and ease back into a normal routine. So I most definitely won’t be giving up anything or starting a health kick. I will be hibernating, comfort eating and watching a lot of TV, often with a glass of wine in hand, while trying to forget about the darkness, the cold and the never ending wait for January pay day.
February is a much more agreeable month. It’s got a much more positive feel to it! The promise of better times ahead, it’s definitely starting to get lighter at night and it’s a nice round 28 days long (ok, apart from leap years). It’s altogether a much better time to make changes.
Shaking off my January lethargy, I have started making plans for the year ahead. So far this consists of booking a holiday for May half term and picking out a couple of 10k runs that I would like to do in the first half of 2025. I may well add more runs, but don’t want to get too carried away, I’ll see how it goes.
I’ve been running every week and am focused on getting a 10k under my belt soon
Since last spring I have been trying to be a little healthier and more active. I have got back into running and usually manage 2-3 runs a week, as well as drinking more water and trying to cut back on the snacks (this is still a work in progress!)
As with any change, although I have made good progress I have hit a bit of a plateau. In order to kickstart things I have set myself a few intentions for February. These are not just physical health goals, but also encouraging some mindfulness and ‘me time’.
- No alcohol
- Some form of activity everyday
- Average of 10k steps over the month
- Participate in Splodz Blogz daily photo challenge – hopefully will give me impetus to get back into blogging
- Take a few minutes for myself everyday to do something I enjoy
Here is my first photo for #SplodzDPC
Life is always busy, but this month is especially busy at work so I will have to put some effort in to stick to these goals. I will update at the end of the month to let you know how I get on.
Are you a January goal setter, or a fan of February like me? Let me know if you have set yourself a challenge.
