The 2024 D23 Brazil event is less than one month away. For the first time, Disney is bringing the D23 experience to Latin America, where fans can expect the latest from Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Parks & Resorts, and more at this multi-day event. This post predicts what’ll be revealed in terms of new entertainment, attractions, overhauls and opening dates.
Let’s start with the basics. From November 8 to 10, 2024, the Transamérica Expo Center in São Paulo will host “D23 Brazil – A Disney Experience.” Get ready to live unforgettable moments with panels full of news, interactive attractions, exclusive products and much more.
D23 Brazil – A Disney Experience is an exciting showcase of the best in creative storytelling and innovation from across The Walt Disney Company. This extraordinary three-day event brings together special areas dedicated to Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, ESPN, National Geographic, Disney Parks, Star and Radio Disney.
Disney fans will have the opportunity to explore the best in creative content and participate in interactive experiences. D23 attendees also have the opportunity to shop at the megastore with more than 600 exclusive products from different categories, such as fashion, stationery, publishing, and toys.
Shows and panels will take place in an auditorium that seats more than 2,000 people. The event will also feature the participation of several national and international talents. Here’s a look at the map for D23 Brazil – A Disney Experience:
D23 Brazil – A Disney Experience is “an event that promises to be an extraordinary milestone in the Disney experience in the country. We invite fans to join us in Brazil for this unique celebration, where we will share the magic, innovation and enchantment that define Disney. We will create unforgettable moments together and build memories that will mark generations”, explains Renato D’Angelo, general manager of The Walt Disney Company Brazil.
D23 Brazil – A Disney Experience Highlights:
- Disney’s biggest fan event is coming to Brazil for the first time.
- Three days of special panels with exclusive content about cinema and streaming and the best of Disney.
- Megastore with more than 600 exclusive products created especially for the event.
- Interactive areas with experiences and activities from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, Star and ESPN.
- Appearances by national and international celebrities.
- A large exhibition space, including special Disney Experiences and Radio Disney areas.
With all of that in mind, here are my predictions for what gets revealed at D23 Brazil next month…
[This space left intentionally blank.]
The bottom line is that I do NOT expect D23 Brazil to be a newsy event for Walt Disney World or Disneyland. Any all-new news is highly unlikely.
I guess it’s possible that the event will have some news that didn’t make the cut at D23 Expo, so let’s quickly run through our predictions and wish list from prior to D23 Expo this summer that didn’t come to fruition, along with other possibilities:
- New Tropical Americas Concept Art or Details – More likely than anything else on this list.
- Entertainment News for 2025 – Walt Disney World still has a thing or two up its sleeve for next summer, but we don’t expect a reveal of that just yet.
- Ride Reimaginings – No new announcements, but I guess maybe a new piece of concept art for Test Track is plausible?
- New Monstropolis Concept Art – Possibly, probably not.
- Monsters Inc Land Location – Probably not.
- New Starlight Parade Concept Art – Possibly.
- Coco Boat Ride (DCA) Concept Art – Possibly.
- Walt Disney AA – Seeing footage of the Audio Animatronics is plausible, but I’d expect the first look of that elsewhere.
- Lion King Ride – No announcement for Animal Kingdom, but again, maybe a better piece of concept art for WDSP that shows the animated film?
- Inside Out in Wonders of Life – No.
- Stitch’s Great Escape Replacement – Less crazy than the next couple entries, but crazy nevertheless.
- New Land at Disneyland – Not a chance.
- Tomorrowland Transformation at Disneyland – Oh come on now, be serious.
- Journey Into Imagination 4.0 – Hahahahahahaha!!!
- River Country Resort – I suppose it’s possible? This project is happening (again). Like in a literal sense. Right now, cranes are in place and earth is moving. So it has to be announced at some point soon-ish, but it makes zero sense to announce in Brazil.
Personally, I think it’s more likely that absolutely nothing from the above list happens–even the reveal of new concept art–than that there are any surprises or big news.
The ‘why’ (or rather, why not) of all this requires understanding the purpose of D23 Brazil in the first place. Fans are divided on this, with many thinking it’s going to be another news-driven event. This is an erroneous assumption. For one thing, D23 Expo (or whatever they’re calling it now) in Anaheim is the flagship event where all of the announcements are made. All other events are history-focused or brand-building exercises.
For another thing, D23 Expo just happened. Even if you knew nothing about Disney’s goals with D23 Brazil, you could make some safe assumptions based on the timing of this event, and the fact that Disney just had a blockbuster D23 Expo and doesn’t have much left in the news tank–aside from table scraps, clarification, and concept art to follow-up on that.
Nevertheless, we’ve heard from some Disney fans who are hoping that there’s a reason why D23 Brazil is happening. That this is a sign that the long-rumored Brazil pavilion in EPCOT is finally happening or that Brazil is getting a park or resort. We think they’re overthinking it. I say this as someone who has been on the Brazil pavilion bandwagon for years: all signs point to that rumor being dead.
As for something more substantial than that, there’s no reason to believe Disney has any interest in investing in Brazil. There are a number of reasons for that, none of which I’m going to get into here. Suffice to say, Brazil probably isn’t top 5 for future development locations. Even if it were, the announcement wouldn’t come at an event like this. Bob Iger would hold a press conference, probably with Brazilian politicians, as soon as the company got the greenlight from government officials. It wouldn’t go down like this.
What D23 Brazil about is fostering the fandom is South America. To the extent that there’s Parks & Resorts content or news, it’ll revolve around convincing Brazilians to visit Walt Disney World in 2025. Thinking about it through that prism should narrow the type of news that’s announced or reveals that occur. This audience is a key demographic for Walt Disney World vacation package bookings, and I’d expect that every effort will be made about getting them excited to visit next year. Maybe that means an update on Test Track, Starlight Night Parade, or other as-yet unannounced entertainment at Walt Disney World.
Personally, I wouldn’t bet on a single all-new announcement. Not trying to rain on any parades, just trying to keep expectations in check. I’ve seen some fans getting excited or overly optimistic about announcements, and they’re just setting themselves up for disappointment. D23 has done international events before–in Japan–and those have mostly just yielded new concept art for Walt Disney World and Disneyland. They haven’t even resulted in any major news for the parks in Japan! With this event occurring in close proximity to D23 Expo, we’re anticipating even less from D23 Brazil. The next big news-centric event will probably be Destination D23 at Walt Disney World in Fall 2025, and even that won’t be remotely on par with the 2024 D23 Expo.
