Take me back to the best of Dubai in July | Complete Dubai Summer Guide | Jump forward to Dubai in September

It’s hard to use any other adjective than hot to describe Dubai in August! It is the peak of the desert summer, and the weather very much defines life in the Middle East.

That said, Dubai is a modern city built for the heat. You won’t find yourself going too far without airconditioned comfort to enjoy. You do need to plan your days carefully, though, to avoid being outside in the peak heat of the day and benefit from the plethora of activities still on offer in the evening.

In this Dubai August guide:

Dubai Weather in August

In the hottest month of the year, daily maximums in Dubai can reach 48.8°C (120°F), averaging around 41.5°C (106.7°F). Overnight, temperatures only drop to an average low of 30.6°C (87°F).

Humidity starts to pick up in August, making it feel even hotter and muggier than in July (NB, look for the “feels like” temperature in your weather app to gauge how hot it is outside better).

Sea temperatures are not particularly refreshing in August either, at a balmy 33.1°C (91.6°F); even temperatures over 34°c in the water can be experienced in Dubai in August.

Suggested Dubai Activities in August 2024

We’re keeping it all indoors still in August with some favourite suggestions to try in the city:

  • Catch La Perle by Dragon – the stunning stage show at Al Habtoor. It runs throughout the year, but August is the perfect time to catch the show in air-conditioned comfort. Stick around for dinner and drinks in Al Habtoor City.
  • Ski Dubai – hit the slopes indoors at the Mall of the Emirates, keeping you active during the hottest months.
  • Visit AYA – Immersive Experience – newly opened at Wafi Mall; this cutting-edge VR tech experience is a truly incredible (and airconditioned!) way to stay in touch with nature in a futuristic manner.

If you’d still like to enjoy the heat and get out in the sun, we suggest cooling off at one of the city’s many beach clubs. Head out in the late afternoon and stay hydrated to make the most of Dubai’s beaches in summer.

More Frequently Asked Questions About August in Dubai

Is it too hot to visit Dubai in August?

This will depend entirely on your tolerance for the heat. It is extremely hot in the desert city in August, so you will spend limited time outdoors, especially during the peak heat of the day. However, much of the city is built for the weather conditions, with copious amounts of indoor entertainment, chilled swimming pools, and ways to escape the heat.

What is closed in Dubai in August?

During Dubai’s hottest summer months (broadly May to October), seasonal events such as Global Village, Ripe Market, and Dubai Miracle Garden will close. Other outdoor entertainment will be curtailed during these months, and many venues close al fresco dining options in at least July and August.

Some outdoor adventures, such as glamping and camping, will stop completely in the hottest months. Desert safari companies will largely continue to run, but timings may change to avoid the heat, and the entertainment program may be adjusted for the conditions.

Is it worth going to Dubai in August?

Gone are the days when even the residents in Dubai would flee the city at the first mention of summer. Indeed, it is extremely hot, but the city is equipped to deal with the heat. The only real change to the city is that most events will occur indoors.

You will still find plenty happening in the dining and nightlife scene, even beach clubs remain open in Dubai in August, albeit those who are sensible will curtail how much time they’ll spend outdoors in the heat of the day. The city will be more lively at night, though still the heat can be extreme – keep well hydrated.

If you are prepared for just how hot it can be, you can certainly still have a great time visiting Dubai in August. You may be able to grab some great summer dining and accommodation bargains, though the city is becoming more and more of a year-round destination, the summer specials aren’t quite as impressive as they used to be, but still exist for those willing to shop around.
