I was gifted some items of clothing from adidas for the purposes of this post. All words and opinions are my own.

I don’t know about you, but this winter seems to have dragged on forever! Every year I’m always so excited for the spring, a bit more light and warmth is always so welcome, but right now I’m more excited than ever for the warmer months.

I think the endless rain has played a part, as has the fact that life has been busy and so we haven’t had a lot of opportunities to get outside. But the one good thing about this time of year, is that it’s the perfect moment to start planning adventures for the year ahead.

Looking Ahead

So far we only have one camping trip in the diary, a few days away in Hampshire in the second week of the Easter holidays. I’m a bit apprehensive about this, mainly as it’s still quite early on in the year, and after how wet it’s been, it may be a bit muddy! I’m not so worried about the cold, as we have electric hook up, so can take a small heater for the night times.

We’re used to camping in the cold!

We are also heading to a festival at the end of May/beginning of June, which we are very excited about! This is a real treat, and gives us all something to look forward to.

Hopefully we’ll manage to get away somewhere in the summer as well. At the moment we’re thinking of heading to the beautiful Lake District as it’s been a while since we last visited, but we haven’t booked anything yet. I feel like we’re well overdue a relaxing camping trip by the water!

But it’s not all about trips away. I also want to spend more time outside in our local area. There’s lots of places we can pop out for a couple of hours, so there’s going to be more mini adventures and family walks. I really want to build up the boys’ stamina so we can start doing some longer walks (hopefully without too much whinging!)

I’m also hoping to work on my own fitness this year. I’ve started trying to walk more and increase my step count everyday, plus I’ve got back into yoga. I only do about 15-20 mins a day, but it makes me feel so much better. I’ve also pulled my running shoes back on, and am starting off with a few slow runs around the park. I’m not aiming to break any records, I just want to be a little bit fitter for our adventures this year so we can really make the most of our time outdoors. Luke is also planning on joining me, and has just picked out some great new running shoes from adidas to help him along.

Checking our Kit

One thing that I really need to do is check all of our kit so we’re ready for our outdoor adventures this year. We’re pretty good at keeping our camping gear together, but over the next couple of weeks we’ll need to get everything out and check it over, plus make sure we have everything we need. I think the only thing we may need this year is a new airbed.

You have to be prepared for every weather in the UK! This is us last Easter enjoying the wind and rain.

Clothing wise, we are generally well kitted out, although given how quickly the boys grow, they may need some new bits (especially waterproofs if the start of this year is anything to go by!). Luke is also in need of some new walking shoes, so that’s on the list. If you’re planning on spending lots of time outdoors, I speak from personal experience that a good pair of supportive walking shoes that can cope with harsh terrain and the worst of the British weather is an absolute must. Luke has also been suffering from plantar fasciitis, so durable and supportive outdoor footwear is now top of his list.

Do you love planning outdoor adventures? What’s on your list for this year?
